On July 7, CMS published its proposed rule revising the Hospital Outpatient (OPPS) and Ambulatory Surgical Center payment systems for calendar year 2027. It also expands prior authorization to additional Botulinum Toxin services, implements Consolidated Appropriations Act provisions for off-campus outpatient departments, and proposes that accrediting organizations assess certain EMTALA requirements during surveys. CMS is also soliciting comments on separate IPPS payment for domestic PPE and essential medicines procurement.
