How assignment cancellations work
The five cancellation cases from your Direct Engagement Agreement, in plain language, so you know exactly where you stand before anything ever gets cancelled.
Your Direct Engagement Agreement (section 9) and each Assignment Confirmation define exactly what happens if an assignment is cancelled. Here is the whole framework in plain language. Nothing on this page changes your agreement; it explains it.
If you cancel
You are paid in full for every Call Day you have already worked. The cancellation is recorded as factual history on the assignment record, and that is all. There is no platform penalty, no strike, and no fee. Life happens in this field; the record simply stays honest.
If the OPO cancels
What you receive depends on when the cancellation lands. There are five cases:
Case 1: before your travel is booked. No compensation. Nothing has been spent and nothing has been worked.
Case 2: more than 7 days before the start date, after travel is booked. No compensation under the agreement, and you absorb any travel costs you cannot recover. This is the one case where booking early carries risk, so consider refundable fares until an assignment is close.
Case 3: 7 days or fewer before the start date, before you arrive. You are paid 1 Call Day.
Case 4: day-of, after you have arrived, before clinical work begins. You are paid 1 Call Day plus both Travel Days plus your documented expenses, and a Convenience Penalty of 1 additional Call Day applies.
Case 5: after clinical work has begun. You are paid for every Call Day worked plus both Travel Days plus your documented expenses, and a Convenience Penalty of 3 Call Days applies.
The Convenience Penalty
In Cases 4 and 5 the OPO pays a Convenience Penalty on top of your compensation. Two-thirds of that penalty goes to you; one-third goes to Meira. The OPO funds the entire amount. Meira never takes anything out of your compensation.
The definitions that make the math work
A Call Day is a whole unit: it is either worked or it is not, with no partial proration. Travel Days are your arrival day and your departure day, always counted as two, never prorated. Days are calendar days.
