The Heart Transplant & VAD Coordinator works under the general supervision of the Senior Director, Inpatient Nursing and is responsible for coordinating and providing multidisciplinary inpatient and outpatient services to transplant and Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) patients and families. The incumbent provides overall coordination for the multidisciplinary team involved in transplantation and VAD services. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

A Brief Overview The Heart Transplant & VAD Coordinator works under the general supervision of the Senior Director, Inpatient Nursing and is responsible for coordinating and providing multidisciplinary inpatient and outpatient services to transplant and Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) patients and families. What you will do• Coordinates all phases of VAD implantation and heart transplantation
- Provides overall coordination for the multidisciplinary team involved in VAD implantation and heart transplantation.
- Assures appropriate care during and after VAD implantation and heart transplantation.
- Implements and directs programs directly related to VADs and Heart Transplant.
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self-development, clinical competency, and knowledge of new departments, treatments, and procedures.
Education/Formal Training Requirements
- Required - Bachelor's Degree Nursing
- Preferred - Master's Degree Nursing
Work Experience Requirements
- Required - Clinical experience or direct patient care. 3-5 years
Licenses and Certifications Requirements
- Required - Registered Nurse Tennessee - Tennessee Board of Nursing
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to handle and administer narcotics as needed.
- Ability to read and write to communicate orally and in writing with other individuals.
Supervision Provided by this Position
- Reports to the Senior Director, Inpatient Nursing.
Physical Demands
- Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.Provides 24/7 coverage for VAD and heart transplant patients and services.
- Exposure to body fluids and to hazardous or poisonous materials.
- Ability to respond to emergency or critical situations.
- Frequent travel outside the hospital.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull 200 lbs. at a time and to carry 50 lbs. at a time without assistance.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit in one place, squat, reach, and bend while maintaining balance and coordination.
- Ability to use hands and feet together for repetitive, coordinated motions.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motion.
- Good hand-eye coordination.
